Today has been a very quiet day.  We’ve just been lazing around, not doing much of anything.  I’ve been catching up on some of my computer time since we have been in and out so much over the past several days.

Friday night, I made a spur of the moment decision to go watch the fireworks.  Quite frankly, I hate the noise of fireworks.  I always have.  I remember going to the Plaza with my mom, my best friend and her parents.  We all rode in the same car.  I would cower in the back of the car, petrified of the noise.

Every year, the Band of the Air Force Reserve plays at the local Stadium to celebrate July 4th.  This year, Diamond Rio, played too.  Cost to attend the concert?  FREE.  Did I go?  NO.  I stay away from the big crowds.

But, I did find a nice little spot away from the crowd.  When I got there, there were about 25 cars already there, but it wasn’t crowded.  I found us a little spot out of the way, and sat back hoping that I had made a wise decision.  Leah has only seen fireworks once and it was rainy and cold that night.  I fixed her up a spot in the back of the Explorer with a soft blanket and she had her nintendo game to keep her occupied.  I set up my camera and tripod, checked the settings, and made sure the camera remote was easy to find in the dark.  I’ve never taken fireworks photos before, so I was excited at the opportunity to be able to try it out.

Leah kept asking every, as children usually do, “Is it dark enough yet for the fireworks?”  ”Have they started yet?”  Well, wouldn’t you know it, she passed out before the fireworks started.

I had to wake Leah up.  She roused up long enough to say “pretty” and then passed back out again.  So I just sat by myself and happily clicked away at the camera.

So, all in all, my photos turned out pretty good.  Two things, I was parked right under power lines, so you can see a black streak on the left, and the fireworks were just above the tree line, so some of the displays were cut off on the bottom.

But the big thing I liked the best, I didn’t have to hear the noise.  It was a very faintly muted pop.  That suited me just fine.

I have been wanting to play around with Artiseer, so last night I tried it out.  Boredom has set in, and usually when that happens, my creative side shows up.  Not always a welcome pair, because when I want the creativity to be there, it doesn’t always come to me.  Recently, I took some photos of flowers over at my doctor’s office.  It was around mid-afternoon, hot and muggy, and I think I sweated off another couple of pounds taking the photos.  Here are the ones I used in the Artiseer program.

This last one I used a burlap background that I had made a long time ago, then used the suggested settings for the colors.  Easy as pie.

I’m working on freshening up my blog design, so if things look a little wonky, just bear with me and hopefully I’ll have everything put back in order soon.

I do.  It’s a passion to blog, and to do it for free (well most of us do anyway).  We spend hours hours glued to the computer screen scrolling through posts looking for common interests, or a giggle, tips or hints on how to do something better, or even learn something new.  For me,  a confirmed homebody, reading mom blogs is my virtual window to the world.  I can keep up with the hottest products under review, or the newest and best books to read, and of course parenting advice.  It is a whole world all it’s own, and I’m thankful for it.  It keeps me occupied and out of trouble, more or less.

I do have moments where I neglect my blogs, right now my Princess in Training blog is sorely in need of fresh content and maintenance.  But for the most part, I like to blog regularly, I like to keep it real, but also simple, because that’s the way I live my personal life.

I have wanted to start a group on Facebook for a while that listed all my friends blogs, and their friends, and their friends, and so forth.  Last night, I did just that.  Maybe it ‘s a little redundant with all the blog hops and follows, but I’m bored, and I need something creative to do.  But I hope it takes off and we get hundreds of members.  So come on over and check out the Facebook group, We ♥ Mom Bloggers, and join in.  Then invite all your mom blogs friends to come by and join too.

I learned something new today.  Now granted, I don’t know everything, but I’m always surprised for some strange reason, when I discover that I have learned something new.  I have been blog hopping today and leaving comments.  I’m not always much of a commenter.  I have trouble coming up with different things to say that are sincere or thoughtful.  I don’t think it’s fair to the author of the blog that I’m visiting, if I just say “stopping by to say hi, have a nice day”.  Although I have done that before just to let them know that I stopped by and left a comment.  Today, I’ve actually found some blogs that have inspired me to write what I call “sincere” comments, and I hope those that I have visited think so too.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking those one line comments.  I love getting comments from my few readers, even if that’s all they do is just say “hi, I wuz here”.

Okay, now I’m gallivanting around and not even telling you what I learned today.  One of the frustrating things I find when leaving comments is that I go to the trouble of leaving a nice, thoughtful comment, and then it doesn’t go anywhere when I press submit.  There are several blogs that I try leaving comments and it never shows up.  It’s not even blogs where the posts have to be pre-approved before they show up.  Late last night, I was trying to leave a comment on a blog that I hadn’t been to in a while, and then remembered why I stopped coming by.  My comment post would never show up.  So, it occurred to me, a light bulb literally went on hovering above my head… maybe it’s the way I’m leaving my name in the boxes you have to fill out.  I always sign my name “Karen ~Georgia Angel” instead of “Karen @ Georgia Angel”.  So I tried signing it “Karen, Georgia Angel”, and lo and behold, it worked.  YAY!  The excitement abounds, well, sorta, my pulse raced a little, lol.

I’ve been struggling all week with a reoccurring thought in my head that I’ve “lost” my happiness.  It’s true, I haven’t been happy in a while.  Not one little moment in any given day could I name something that made me happy, not even the cheerfulness of my 6 year old.  In fact, that was beginning to grate on my nerves.  There’s nothing worse than a mama with scrapped nerves, let me tell you.

So, I am here to say that I have had 2 happy moments today.  The first I have already described.  The other came in the middle of the night.  It sounds a little weird, I know, and it’s not what you might think.  I posted before that I was intending to sell some of my craft kits.  I found 40 of them stashed in boxes in my garage.  I knew I had a lot, but 40?  WOW.  Anyway, I started posting them online last week, 1 person was interested, but never followed through.  Last night, I saw a twitter from Simply Organized about a #TwagSale starting today.  So, I got motivated and started posting the rest of my kits online to prepare for the TwagSale.  After I got about 7 of them loaded on Robins Yard Sales, I received an IM from a lady saying she was interested in all that I had and wanted a price for the lot.  I was very surprised, nothing like that ever happens to me.  I told her how many kits I had, and she didn’t hesitate.  I quoted her a price (after calling my mother to seek advice–yeah, I know, lame) and she didn’t even haggle.  She agreed right away, and I told her she had made my day.  She came over today, brought cash, took away the boxes and I am now X amount of dollars richer and a little more clutter free.  Yep, money CAN make you happy sometimes.  Now I am properly motivated to finish decluttering my craft stuff and the toys.

P.S.  I posted the Deal of the Day on my AVON blog today, it was a beautiful pair of earrings.  If I still wore earrings, I would probably buy them.  Although it does say they are available in clipons.  I just might order them, you can’t beat the  price.

I’m sitting here on a Thursday night, watching the USA network, and multitasking… browsing the internet for blogs and meeting new twitter friends.  The urge to write is there, the idea isn’t.  Of course, all of this is compounded by lack of sleep this week and a pounding headache.  So then an idea hit me…. I’m always full of ideas…  ideas that I never really act on.  Would that be called idea fail?  Or is it just a lack of follow-through?  So I thought I would list some of my 101 Ideas and see where it leads, or what conclusions I come to.  Here they are, in no particular order.

Idea 1.  Start a home business making handcrafted items…  I actually did this at one time making treetop angels and antique angel pins.  Worked really hard and sold them all, then gave it up.  Never felt like I was successful.

Idea 2.  Start a home business designing web pages… I designed a few simple web pages for other people.  Had lots of ideas about how to advertise frugally, but never got around to it.

Idea 3.  Start a home business selling products, like Avon, or candles, or jewelry… I’ve been thinking about this for years and I finally took one small step a few weeks ago and signed up to sell Avon.  I’ve had one customer, and only because my gracious upline leader shared an order with me.

Idea 4.  Make my own clothes…   I buy the material and the patterns, and they are still sitting in a pile next to the dust-covered sewing machine.

Idea 5.  Make clothes for my 6 year old… I started a dress, and it actually made it through the sewing machine process, then didn’t finish it.

Idea 6.  Get really excited over something, anything.  Nope, doesn’t happen.

Idea 7.  Get involved in sports.  I signed Leah up for baseball and soccer, but refused to participate.

Idea 8.  Excercise.  Daily.  Nope, not gonna happen.

Idea 9.  Clean house.  Daily.  Every other day?  Not gonna happen either.

Idea 10.  Effectively encourage my daughter to eat meats and veggies.  I don’t know how she does it, but she is more stubborn than I am when it comes to food, and she has been that way since she was an infant.

Idea 11.  Become a better cook.  I hate cooking, but I sure do get awful hungry.

Idea 12.  Learn to mow the lawn.  Allergy haven.  I can’t breathe just thinking about it.

Idea 13.  Change the battery in the smoke alarm that keeps beeping at me.  The last time I tried to do that the alarm went off and liked to scared the heebie jeebies out of me.

Idea 14.  Plant flowers.  Now my head hurts from imagining the amount of dirt involved.

Idea 15.  Start wearing jewelry and makeup again.  Who is it that I have to dress up for?  Oh wait, I may have to go back to working in a real office again.  Hmmm, better think more on that one.

Idea 16.  Join a local mom’s group.  Hey, I actually did this one.  I’m one of the playgroup coordinators and will be the new party planner starting next month.  Okay, this could be working.

Idea 17.  Cut off TV cable service.  Financially, this is a very practical idea.  But some days it’s my only window to the world around me.

Idea 18.  Have a garage sale.  I always start thinking about this too late in the season, when it’s really too hot.

Idea 19.  Sell some of my “stuff” online.  I posted some of my craft kits and only got one nibble.  I even reduced the price, she said she would call to set up a meet.  Someone called me at 8:30 am on Sunday morning.  I blearily looked at the phone and hit the “ignore” button.  I don’t do business before 11:00 am and I’ve had my Dr. Pepper on Sunday mornings.  Sorry, I guess I lost that sale.  Whoever it was didn’t even bother to leave a message.  Maybe they embarrassed themselves by calling so early.

Idea 20.  Listen to my daughter more.  I’ve gotten in trouble by not listening to her (she thought I was agreeing to getting some bunnies), but she just chatters at me non-stop.  And just not at me, just talks constantly.  I have no idea where she gets it from.  Again, like No. 19, don’t talk to me before I’ve had my Dr. Pepper and make sure it’s closer to noon.  What’s odd, is I have to have noise during the day, the TV or the radio, or even the sound of the ceiling fan, but I cannot take her little voice sing-songing…  all … day … long.

Idea 21.  Stop eating junk food and quit drinking Dr. Peppers.  My sanity might come in question, or I might have to take up smoking again.

Idea 22.  Start using coupons.  I’m such a picky shopper, and I never find coupons for products/brands that I like to buy.  I did find 2 coupons to buy something for Leah this week…  $2 off a Wubbzy DVD and a buy 1 get 1 free Littlest Pet Shop.  She has watched that DVD over and over every day since she got it, and the little pet has not been out of her sight.  She even sleeps with it.

Idea 23.  Watch more comedies on TV.  I do have a sense of humor, honest, I really do.  But for some reason, I haven’t enjoyed a comedy show or movie in I don’t know when.  I can’t bear to watch them.  Why do I think they are all stupid and not funny?

Idea 24.  Quit watching soaps.  There isn’t anything better to watch in the daytime.  I don’t watch talk shows, and I can only watch HLN’s repeats so many times.

Idea 25.  Go to the beach.  Just pack a bag and go.  When I make spontaneous decisions like that, they always turn out badly.  But what could be the harm, really?  My biggest fear is that my car would break down.  But I need a vacation, badly.  All this back and forth is giving me whiplash.

Idea 26.  Stop the madness of playing facebook games.  LOLOLOLOLOLOL, yeah, right.

Idea 27.  Clean out the pantry and the fridge/freezer.  Well, that would tell me where I’ve wasted all my money.

Idea 28.  Find a man.  Tried that 2 years ago and it went bad within a year.

Idea 29.  Part 2 of No 28—Get Married.  I’m twice divorced.  Why do I think it would get any better a third time around?

Idea 30.  Enter more blog giveaways or do product reviews.  You know, I like the idea.  I actually follow a lot of giveaway and review blogs, but don’t participate.  Weird.  I’ll even retweet about the giveaways, but won’t officially enter.  Even more weird.

Okay, so maybe the title of this post should be 101 excuses why I don’t reach out and snatch up those things that I want to do.  It’s after midnight now and my sinuses are killing me.  We’ve had a week of rain here in Middle Georgia and I think the lack of sleep and the atmosphere is finally catching up with me.  More to come!

Leah has been home from school for the past 3 days due to … errrr… umm, constipation problems.  I have been smelling poop for 3 days and stuck inside.  Well, you get the idea, so I’ll move on.  Our plans for tomorrow have changed because of all the nasty rain.  In fact, it’s changed our plans all week.  Our first Little League baseball practice was cancelled on Wednesday, and now the Opening Ceremony for tomorrow morning has been cancelled.  It’s been raining all week, but we are now getting thundering and lightning.

I need a mommy night out.

Last night, I tried a photography experiment with Leah.  It started out okay, I let her take some photos, but she lost interest.  She has been home sick over the past couple days.  You know how when you get sick and you are in the recovery stage?  You feel a little better, but once you get up and moving around, you lose some of your energy and feel shaky?  I think that happened to her last night.  She tried taking a couple of pictures of me and she kept chopping off the top of my head.  But this one didn’t turn out too bad.

I debated on whether on not to post the rest of them, but I just was not looking my best.  I don’t know if the camera is still picking up all the bruises and scratches on my face from when I fell last month, or what, but it just wasn’t working.

I was able to get a few good shots of Leah, this is my favorite…

She is wearing a hat that I crocheted, my hat as a matter of fact.  Looks much better on her.

Oh what a nice day it was today.  I had a follow-up eye appointment this morning, well, more like early afternoon.  I could see the sun shining through the blinds in the house.  I’ve been keeping the blinds drawn so I don’t have to see the ugly gray outside, plus to try to help keep the heat in.  But, I was expecting to feel a chill in the air when I went outside.  I pulled out of the garage, and my car felt so cold.  I realized I forgot something, so I just stopped in the driveway and stepped out of the car.  The moment I stepped out, the warmth from the sun felt so wonderful.  I took in a deep breath.  It almost felt like a heavy cloud was lifted off my shoulders.  I wish I had had more time to take it in more slowly, but I was running out of time before my appointment. I think the temp outside may have reached almost 70 degrees. 

Tomorrow, the blinds are going to be drawn open, and I might even open  window or two.  I really need some fresh air.  I need the fresh air for a variety of reasons… I’ve got to prepare myself because my mother is going to have hip surgery again, for the 4th time in 7 years.  I remember on my 41st birthday, she was in the hospital for the 2nd surgery.  I had just found out I was pregnant with Leah, and I had to tell my mother about my pregnancy just before her surgery.  Yeah, I could have waited, however, that might have been harder on her.  Anyway, I was spending my birthday week with her in the same hospital where I was born.  Just for fun, I called the ob doctor who delivered me and invited him to come up to the hospital to celebrate my birthday.  And he did, I really didn’t think he would.  I think my mother was a favorite patient of his, so it was a special moment for them too.  He even brought her some of his prize camellias that he grows.

The other things I need to prepare for is…  bill collectors and child support.  I have got to do something to stop the financial distress I’m in, but I don’t know what to do.  Now I’m caught between  rock and a hard place.

So, sunshine, I need you to stick around and keep my spirits up.

Tonight, I’m sitting in my chair trying to relax and get comfortable, watching a little TV, playing games on Facebook, and writing in my blogs.  What I really should be doing is laying in the bed with the room calm, quiet and dark.  But noooooo, I can’t seem to get myself there.

Today, I took my daughter to the bowling alley for a birthday party.  We had a good time.  We were probably there for about 2-1/2 hours, standing on my feet or sitting in those horrible chairs.  This was after we had been out for almost 2 hours trying to find presents for the birthday boys.

When we got home, I must have been complaining about how tired I was.  Leah says “Mama, you should get more exercise.  Then you will feel so much better, and be rested.  Remember your sleep studies?”  I do not want to hear it, I replied, especially not froma 6 year old (who is in training to be the future Energizer Bunny).  She just has no idea.  I need replacement parts for all my achy joints.

So, I’m sitting here in my comfy chair, feeling not so comfy, because my hips feel like they are on fire.  To get up to go to the kitchen for a soda and a snack, I can barely walk, they are so stiff and sore.  Never mind, my back, my upper muscles, my hands, wrists, arms, feet… have I covered everything?

And as I’m sitting here, I’m thinking about the baseball equipment I purchased today.  A bat, glove, ball, and T-ball stand (all pink, by the way) for Leah and a glove for me.  She is ready to start practicing for little league.  Our first practice on the field will be Wednesday.  I’m still sitting here with “What was I thinking?” going through my head.  Really?  Seriously?  Did I think I was going to be able to sit/stand for an opening ceremony, 11 practices, and 7 games?  At the minimum?  Between now and the end of May?  Who am I kidding here?  At least I won’t be required to stand out in the field to help Leah.  She will have a “buddy” with her, but I can tell you right now…  it is NOT going to be me.

Maybe I need to start taking Vitamin D again, or at the very least invest in some arthritic medicine.

Okay, I’m having a blog design blue day, but it’s for a “pink” blog.  It’s really aggravating.  I know some about html coding and how to put things together, but, I don’t know enough.  I’m so frustrated over it.

I have a separate blog where I post all things about my daughter, Leah Rose.  Her blog is at My Leah Rose ~Princess in Training. 

I wrote a new post this morning about an event we attended last night, and I’m getting tired of seeing the layout the way it is.  I just don’t know how to fix it.  This is what it looks like:

It’ a 3 column lay out, with the article in the middle and two sidebars, one on the left and one on the right.  To see the article, you have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the left sidebar.

Sigh, I just can’t figure it out.  Also, it is supposed to be centered horizontally on the page, but it isn’t.  It’s sitting on the left margin.  ARRGH!

I know I may be asking a bit much, but I can’t afford to hire somebody to fix it, but is there someone out there who knows a little bit about designing, that would be willing to take a look and offer some tips on what might be wrong with it?  I certainly would appreciate it.

Last night, I took Leah Rose to a birthday party of one of her little friends.  We had a pretty decent time.  It’s one of the few times that I’ve been able to go out and socialize and not having to check on Leah every 2 minutes.  Uh, yeah, I’m a “hovering” mommy sometimes.  But she did good.  It was one of the moments when you are sitting around with people you have known forever.  A moment in time where I didn’t feel like I was a fifth wheel, just there for the sole purpose of entertaining Leah.  See, the little girl’s mother and I have known each other all our lives.  Our parents are best friends.  How cool is that? 

So, after an evening of friendship and fellowship, I headed home.  It was kind of a long, lonely drive… Leah fell asleep.  She missed the most beautiful sight….  a huge yellow full moon.  It was breathtaking.  I was driving straight at it with a clear view for the longest time.  I was reveling in the glory of it, and giving thanks for such a lovely sight at the end of a lovely evening.  Wishing that I was brave enough to pull over on the side of the road and try to take a picture of it.  But the road was too dark, with frequent traffic and I felt it just was not safe.  When I got home, my view of the moon was obstructed by the tree line and I was just not able to get a good view of it.  Of course, now I’m kicking myself for not attempting to stop somewhere in my neighborhood to take the picture.

I tried searching on the internet for pictures of the moon from my local area, and I couldn’t find any, but I found this one from Texas taken last night.

There was a moment of sadness when gazing at the moon last night.  I didn’t have someone close to share with it, to enjoy the beauty of it.  I miss that.  That void was slightly filled this morning when I woke up and there was a status update from one of my facebook friends about the moon. 

Today, I’ve been restless all day.  Can’t settle on anything.  I have been flitting here and there doing a little of this, doing a little of that.  I felt like I accomplished something today, but I don’t know what it was.  I even ordered comfort food, pizza and chicken tenders.  My mind has wandered frequently to the layout of my blogs today.  I want to keep the same design and layout, but they both need a little cleanup, more widget friendly.  I’m frustrated I don’t know enough about blog design to fix it and I don’t have the money to pay someone to fix it.  Sigh, and it’s been cold and and sorta blustery, and my toes have been frozen all day.  I watched Lost and it was an episode that gives you the feeling that all the answers are just in the next scene.  So many twists and turns, and that kinda livened me up a little.

I decided to step outside (with my already frozen toes) and try to take in a breath of fresh air.  This is what I saw across the treeline in my back yard.

I have no idea what the two little flashes of light are on the top left and bottom.  That’s a complete mystery.

It almost appears as if there is a fire, but I don’t hear any sirens, or smell any smoke.  But it’s an interesting view, something else to keep me wondering about before I go to bed tonight.

This month I’m going to try to blog every day, participating in NaBloPoMo.

 The theme for this month is STRANGE(R).  I don’t know if I will blog every day on the theme, but I have had a thought running in my head all weekend, that was “strange” that I thought I would blog about, to kick off the month of March.

First, I want to say, that I pray for all the recent victims of the earthquake and tsunami events.  I lived in Northwest Florida for almost 10 years and I went through a few mild and a couple big hurricanes.  I was never in the situation of the recent events though and my heart goes out to them.

Now with that said…  I dream, and I dream a lot.  Most of it is nonsense stuff and I usually don’t remember any of it within minutes of waking up.  I only know that I had been dreaming, and dreaming hard.  Sometimes I wake up with these nagging feelings about someone that I had dreamed about.  It’s an odd feeling, and it kinda freaks me out a little.  The dreams are almost premonitions.  (DISCLAIMER:  I don’t claim to have premonitions.)  Mostly when that happens, I wake up fully alert and jumpy.

So, here’s the STRANGE part.  The part that has been running in my head all weekend.  I had a dream that an 8 foot wall of water was headed straight towards me.  I was standing on a sidewalk, next to a huge brick wall.  The wall was part of a building, and it seems there was some type of overhang.  I remember thinking I don’t have anything to hold on to and I’m not going to make it to safety.  I felt sluggish as if my feet wouldn’t move.   The picture of it in mind is just as vivid as if I dreamed it last night.  I don’t remember what night I dreamed it, but it was within the past week.

Strange, huh?

I haven’t participated in any memes for a while, and in fact, I haven’t posted on my blog much over the past 6 months or so.  I’ve just recently started again.  I have been inspired recently by reading other people’s blogs, which I have so enjoyed.  There are so many talented writers out there and I love to read their humor and wit about their every day lives.

Ever been the victim of a scam?  I almost was on Monday.  After I got Leah on the schoolbus, I was checking out some posts on Facebook before I got started with my work routine for the day.  An instant message popped up from a personal friend on facebook.  Someone I have known since high school.  She married a fellow that I have known almost all my life.  Her husband and I grew up down the street from each other, and our parents were best friends.  We have children about the same age.  We see each other, not frequently, but maybe a couple times a year.  At first I thought it was kinda odd because we really don’t communicate much through facebook, and definitely not through IM.  But, I thought maybe she had seen my blog post about my fall and was inquiring about how I was doing.  Here is the conversation… (edited to protect the innocent)…

“Friend”… hi (8:14 am)

“Me”… hey (8:15 am)

“Friend”… how r u doing? (8:15 am)

“Me”… I’m doing okay (8:16 am)

“Friend”… am not doing good at the moment (8:18 am)
Here is where I started to get suspicious and I clicked on her name to confirm this was really who I thought it was.  Yep.  It’s who I thought it was.

“Friend”… in some kind of deeps*** (8:18 am)

“Me”… {Friend}? (8:19 am)
There is no way that my friend would be using that kind of language.  None.  Whatsoever.

“Friend”… Am stranded in London UK
Got mugged at a gun point lst night (8:19 am)

ALARM BELLS ARE CLANGING!!!!

“Me”… oh for heaven’s sake.  You aren’t “Friend”.  She doesn’t talk that way. Go away. By the way, [she] is a very good close friend of mine. I’m going to notify her that you have hacked her account and I’m calling the police.  (8:20 am)

“friend” is offline.  8:23 am

I checked her profile again, and we were no longer friends on facebook.

I sent my friend an email to let her know what had happened.  I even had my wits enough about me that early in the morning (I’m usually not fully alert until 10 or 11 am) to take a screen shot of the IM window, it even included the date and time from my taskbar.  I was quite proud of myself.  I’m sure I scared my friend to death though.  She was at work when she got my email and wasn’t able to access her account on facebook.  She also said she received a voice mail from a member of her family with the same information that I sent to her.

I adivsed her she should report it to Facebook as soon as she got home and to change her password.

When I was watching the noon news on TV while sitting in the doctor’s office yesterday, I heard a blurb that someone had been the victim of a scam on facebook and there would be more news at the 5:00 segment.  I missed it.  My mother called me and said she saw it.  I finally found it on their news page.  Macon Chef Victim of Internet Scam.

Public Service Announcement for the Day:  If you believe you are a victim of a scam on Facebook, immediately change your password, report it to Facebook, and report it to the local Better Business Bureau.

I was a good friend yesterday and shouted “I’m Calling the Police”!  I sent out a private message to all our mutual friends to warn them not to accept messages from her account.  She told me later that night that she only heard from me and 1 other person about it, so hopefully my friend’s account/information has not been compromised.

No, this is not a menu plan.  I’m just not into eating eyes, but I can chomp down on some finger-lickin’ bar-b-que ribs from time to time.  This is actually about my doctor’s visits yesterday and today.  UGH!  More appointments?  Yes.  I just can’t get enough.

Yesterday, I posted about watching where I was going, or rather about NOT watching where I was going.  I mentioned my newest symptoms that I have been having…..  my left eye and my left side under my ribs.

I did see the eye doctor yesterday and he dilated my eyes.  Yep, he can see the floater, right in the middle (I’m thankful it wasn’t Capn’ Crunch).  He goes on to tell me the good news…  I don’t have a retinal tear or detachment.  And, of course, he just has to share the bad news….  I do have a posterior vitreous detachment or PVD.  It’s common, he says, while nodding his head up and down.  But doc, was it caused by my fall?  I felt like I had been hit with a brick at full force.  Weeellllll, maybe, was the answer.  He’s not positive, but it could have.  Well.  The bad news gets worse…  your new best friend is going to be the HUGE floater for a very long time, give it a name, how about JOSEPH?  No, thanks.  I haven’t come up with anything better, but I will.  On a brighter note, or not, the light flashes should go away soon.  No treatment, and come back in 2 weeks just to make sure that it hasn’t gotten worse.

Today, I go to see my primary physician.  I tell him all that has happened as he busily scribbles away, occasionally looking up when I point to various parts of my body.  Then I get to the part about my side hurting.  It bothers me a little, but when I press on it, it’s very tender.   He reaches out and PRESSES along the edge of my rib cage.  YIKES!  That hurt, doc.  So, here comes the head nodding.  Again.  Yes, that is your floating rib.  You’ve bruised it.  Doc, was it caused by the fall?  Absolutely.  Watch for swelling and let me know if it gets worse.  Otherwise come back in 3 months.

So, has it been a win-win 2 days?  Yes.  No meds.  No surgeries.  I’m not 100%, but I’m … good.

 You know you are a mom when you are walking along with your head up trying to keep an eye on your runaway 6 year old child.  Sometimes this can be disastrous if you don’t pay attention to where you are planting your feet on the ground. 

 This is me at the emergency room several weeks ago (for my Facebook friends, this is old news, sorry).  Leah Rose and I were meeting my mother and my son for dinner at a local restaurant.  I got Leah out of the car, and she went running up one of the sidewalks to the front porch and I went around another walkway to meet up with her at the end of the bushes.  The next thing I knew I was laying face down on the concrete.  My first thought was “don’t black out” and the next was “where is Leah?”  I rolled over and started calling for her.  She finally came running over to me and by that time I had sat up and was rummaging for my cell phone to call my mother.  When I leaned over, that’s when I realized that blood was pouring down my face.  So I immediately slapped the end of the cape I was wearing up to my face to try to stop the bleeding and so that Leah wouldn’t see it.

The photo above is after I had been cleaned up a little by the emergency personnel that arrived on the scene.  The ambulance and the fire truck showed up.  I busted up my glasses pretty good, so I could not see a thing.  I kept asking for people’s names because I sure wouldn’t be able to tell who was who by their faces.  So I got my first ambulance ride, ever.  I hope it was my last.  All of the EMT’s were very nice, very professional, did their jobs and I arrived safely at the hospital.  I had a pretty nasty cut above my left eyebrow and scrapes/abrasions/contusions down the left side of my face.  I also sprained my right wrist and had abrasions on both knees.  The ER doctor ordered a scan of my head and x-rays of my wrist.  No broken bones, and no concussion.  I was sent home with instructions on care of the wounds and a prescription for some pain meds.

What we all failed to realize is that I walked out of that ER that night with glass from the lenses in my eyeglasses embedded in the laceration above my eyebrow.  This happened on Thursday night, and by Monday morning, I was beside myself because I was convinced of it and that it was getting more and more embedded in the cut.  I went to see a couple of doctor’s and the glass was extracted, and I couldn’t believe how much physical pressure was relieved off my temple.  All has been well, I’m healing and you can hardly tell that I looked like I had been mugged.

Until just recently.  I’m developing odd symptoms.  Could be nothing related to my fall, or could be just now showing up.  Of course, my left cheek bone and the bone at the base of my right thumb is still extremely tender.  I landed really hard, and really expected to have some minor fractures in my facial bones and in my wrist.  Last week, I started experiencing pain in my left side, just under my rib cage and around to my back.  It doesn’t hurt constantly but it’s very, very sore and tender, especially to the touch.  The other thing is that over this past weekend, I started noticing see a flashing left in the left corner of my eye that comes and goes.  I am also seeing a very large “floater” across my vision that I know was not there before.  I’ve been experiencing some sharp pains across my eyebrown and temple area, don’t know what that means either.

{Sigh} the odd things that happen to me just never seem to end.

Until, one morning, I woke up and it dawned on me that I had had a Christmas miracle.  In 2008, my dentist discovered that I had a small growth on my tongue and had referred me to an oral surgeon.  The appointment was several months later, and by that time, the growth had disappeared.  The surgeon examined me and said he didn’t see anything, but that sometimes happens.  It was very common, and if it returned to come back and he would remove it.  Well, it came back, sometime around September or October, I think.  By Christmas, it had gotten a little bigger, not huge, but large enough that it was getting irritated by chewing food.  During the last two weeks before Christmas, I was taking care of my mother after her last surgery, and I was taking her out to eat a lot, so I was eating a lot more than I normally do.  Neither one of us felt up to doing anything special for Christmas dinner, so we found the Huddle House on Christmas night and had supper there.  I have to tell you, I was at the point where I almost could not eat because the place on my tongue was so sore, but I persevered eating my beef steak because I knew that was all I was going to get.

It wasn’t until a few days later that I realized that my mouth was no longer sore.  I rushed to the mirror to check it out, and sure enough, the growth was GONE.  I couldn’t believe it.  It took me a few minutes to think about when was the last time I had felt soreness, and it was Christmas night.  You know,  I really hadn’t been praying about it because it was the least of my concerns.  The surgeon had felt confident that it was not cancerous, that it was very common, and there was no rush to have it removed.  In fact, I was scheduled for the surgery during December, but decided to cancel due to my daughter’s and my mother’s surgeries.

God answers prayer in mysterious ways.  I’m still struggling with seeing a bright future for 2010, but I’m getting there.

I don’t put much faith in horoscopes.  But I do like to read them for fun.  While entering some giveaways from my good friends, Stacey at Super Mommy to the Rescue, and Kim at Mission Mommy, I saw that Twittascope had updated on my twtter account.  It says “You are aware of the assumptions that are behind the current “.  Okay, so that always gets me curious.  I had to read more.   The full horoscope reads:

“You are aware of the assumptions that are behind the current veneer of social etiquette and you aren’t sure that you can meet the expectations. You can sense the pressure, even if others are going out of their way to be nice to you. Don’t give up today; just do the best you can and then move on to what is next. You may be surprised that the same people who were being negative earlier turn out to be your best allies later on.”

Today, I had an appointment with my chiropractor.  As a little background, I have known him all my life.  He started out working with his father.  My mother worked for his father for over 40 years, and I worked for them for a couple of years.  He is a great doctor and always tries to give helpful hints to improve your lifestyle.  Today, he hit me up with the diet spill.  He and his wife tried Jenny Craig earlier this year and lost 30 lbs within the first couple of months.  I tell ya, he looks great.  So he spent a good 20 minutes talking to me about it, in his very subtle way, and suggesting that it is something that I should look into.  If I keep on, I’m going to be 40 lbs. heavier this time next year.  Sigh.  Don’t I know it.   He put  me on the Spinalator and left the room.  I laid there for a little bit, then all of a sudden, tears came to my eyes.  Of all things.  He’s right, I know it.  I hate diets, and I hate dieting alone.  I could really use to lose anywhere from 30-60 lbs.  60 would be ideal, but I’d settle for 30.

When I got home, I checked out the diet systems he mentioned.  They look like they could work for me, but I just can’t manage it, financially, that is.  I would love to.  But that’s a lot of money to come up with in a chunk of change.  Now, granted, I didn’t delve too deep and look at all the plans offered.  I’m sure there is something there that I haven’t seen yet that I could manage.  But it was still very depressing.  My mother called and we talked about all we had going on this month and we were looking forward to maybe having a quiet November.  Ha.  If only.  I told her about what the doctor said today, and her answer was, “well, just put it aside and maybe think about it in December, maybe after Christmas.”

Aha….  see how the horoscope works?  It’s a little freaky.

As for the chiropractor, he really is my best ally.  I already know that.  The chiropractic treatments have worked (even though he tells me “I’m still a mess”).  It has definitely alleviated the bursitis in my hips, and decreased the pain in my low back.  The key is keeping the appointments on a regular basis.

Today, I lost my best friend.  I haven’t known my friend for that long, a little over a year maybe, but a close, dear friend nonetheless.  Someone I will cherish forever, but  never be close to again.  I did not lose this friend to death, which might be easier to handle, but I lost my friend through a series of mistakes on both our parts.  A “comedy of errors” if you will.  I don’t see any hope of reclaiming the relationship, and it’s sad, very sad.  I know my friend is hurting too, and I’m so very sorry.  If I could ease the pain, I would.  Good luck to you and best wishes, my friend, my heart.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, I had a follow-up doctor’s appointment this morning.  I drove an hour and a half to get there, they took the vitals (temp of 99.2) and drew blood.  Then I promptly fell asleep on the table.  The doctor comes in, not for the first time finding me curled up, asleep on the table, but wants to know what is going on.  So I just flat out said, “I’m tired, so very tired”.  I sleep from 8 pm at night until 6 am in the morning, and I want to sleep all day.  It makes me grumpy and irritable, it makes me not want to do anything, and it seems as if the more sleep I get, the more I want.  I can’t take a short nap because I can’t seem to come out of it and shake it off.  My arms and legs feel heavy and I can’t move.  So I answered all the questions…  do you snore?  do you wake up frequently with sore throats?  do you wake up gagging or choking?  do you wake up with a dry mouth?  do you kick or thrash your legs?  do you have vivid dreams?  do you feel like you constantly have to move your legs to get comfortable?  do you feel like your skin on your legs is crawling?  do you have to fight sleep?  does it come on suddenly?  do you feel like you are in a daze?  do you fall asleep while reading?  do you fall asleep while watching tv?  do you get sleep when driving long distances?  do you fall asleep as a passenger on long trips?    Those are only some of the questions and I pretty much answered yes to all of them, except if I snored.  I don’t know.  I don’t have anybody to tell me if I snore.  The doctor is mumbling …hypersomnia, paralytic sleep, narcolepsy, it’s not a side effect to the Lyrica because you aren’t taking enough of it.  Depression?  maybe, but not likely.  You say you are sleeping all night and that you are sleeping good?  Yes, yes.  If I take the ambien, I don’t wake up during the night.  The doctor is shaking his head saying “this is not normal and something is terribly wrong.”  Yes, I want to scream, I’ve lost my best friend.  Oh, much better now.  Ahem.  Now, where was I?  Oh yes, the doctor says I’m going to start with a sleep study and that may tell me something.  What’s really weird about all this is that several months ago, and for years this had been happening, but I couldn’t sleep at all at night.  I would stay awake until 2 or 3 am because I couldn’t get my brain to shut down.  The doctor gave me ambien and it works but I still sometimes have to force myself to go lay down at night.  Weird.

Oh, and as a side note, I’m hungry.  I’m hungry all the time, and when I eat, I eat huge platefuls and I eat it all, and I’m still not satisfied.  I’m not having extreme weight gain, but I have gained quite a bit of weight since the beginning of the year, probably close to 14 pounds, maybe?  That is disturbing to me.  I’m also having another symptom, and I really don’t know how to describe it.  It’s not dizziness, but it’s like I’m having a spell (no, not a magic spell), but something passes through the front part of my skull, above my eyes.  At first, these “spells” were coming in very short bursts, but now they are occurring in longer waves.  He didn’t make any real comments about these symptoms, but he was steadily taking notes.

I go back to the see the doctor in 2 weeks and I’ve got to have a sleep study done between now and then.   So what’s the problem you may ask?  My schedule is the problem.   Between now and October 24th, my daughter has a pediatrician appointment, a pre-op hospital appointment, and a dental surgery.  My mama is having a colonoscopy, which for anyone else is a normal procedure, but for her, is not.  My daughter and I are going to have at least five chiropractic appointments.  I have a parent-teacher meeting, three after school field trips, and I have to come up with a 50′s costume for Leah by October 15.   That does not include the Wings & Wheels Car show (my son will be participating), the Mossy Creek Festival, and the Georgia National Fair.  Am I complaining?  Yes, I am.  I know, there’s nothing that can be done about it, but I’m complaining anyway.  I want to sleep, I want to sleep for a week, a month, please just let me sleep.

I’m complaining and I’m sad, but at the same time, I’m thankful.  The good news is that I have connected with another mom locally.  Her and her husband are the parents of one of the little boys in Leah’s class.   They also have a 4 year old daughter.  They moved here from Las Vegas just before school started.  I’m thankful because it appears we have become fast friends.  Her kids aren’t special needs, they are just ordinary every day kids, and they love Leah already, and she loves them in return.  We went over to their house on Saturday, only planning on staying for about an hour or so, and wound up staying almost 3 hours, I think.  And we talked on the phone for an hour and a half the other night.  They are a quirky family, but very friendly and very kind. and I have enjoyed getting to know them.

Okay, I’m getting drowsy now, I’m falling asleep, oh noooooooooo
