After my step-daughter,
Lauren,
passed away in 2001, I began searching online for charities to donate
to and found the internet to be very resourceful. Unfortunately,
I was unable to begin any projects at that time. But, the desire
still burned in my heart to use my talent to benefit others.
After the birth of my daughter,
Leah Rose, in 2003, I felt even more strongly about making items
to donate. In particular, donating to the babies in the
neonatal intensive care unit. My daughter spent 10 days in the NICU when she was born and
16 days in the PICU after surgery in 2004. My day was always brightened to find little
gifts left in her bed. It's the little things that mean so
much.
On 1/3/06, I came across
Bev's
Country Cottage, and I decided that this was my opportunity to
begin what I have yearned to do for so long. I posted my
pledge and by 4/24/06, I had exceeded my goal of 100 items. I
elected not to participate in 2007 and 2008 because I moved from
Florida to Georgia and did not have the time or energy to crochet
for a goal. However, this year, in 2009, I have decided to
return to Bev's Charity Challenge and again, work towards a goal,
(which I have set very low... lol), and which I'm very confident
that I will exceed the number of items made again. |
