I finished this “heroghan” last night.  It will be going to a family in Texas in honor of their US service member.

This is a square that I made in memory of a co-assembler from American Angels who unexpectedly passed away last week.  This is from the 99 Granny Squares to Crochet, Leisure Arts Leaflet #3078, #24 designed by Carole Prior.

Blessed Event Sweater Set from the pattern booklet Weekend Sweater Sets by Angie Kowalsky at Angie’s Gifts by Hand.  I used double strands of Baby Bee Pink-a-Boo #36 with a K hook.  I am working on a blanket using the same stitch in the sweater.

I made 5 hats and 7 pairs of booties using the same Blessed Event Set pattern.  I used double strands of Baby Bee  Angel #10 with the I hook on a few of them, and I used double strands of Jamie Baby Yarn 3ply sport weight #200 White with a K hook.  I’m planning on making matching sweaters to go with these.

I made 2 hats from Bev’s Easy Round Baby Hat Pattern and the same Blessed Event bootie pattern.  The yarn is left over scraps from the Mainstays #2171 Baby Print and I used an I hook.

I made this hat from the same Bev’s Easy Round Baby Hat pattern with some scrap yarn I had.  I’ve lost the label off of it, but if I find the name of it, I’ll edit the name later.  I’m going to make some matching booties to go with it.

This is Granny Square Pattern # 24 by Carole Prior from the Leisure Arts #3078 99 Granny Squares to Crochet book.  I used Red Heart Super Saver Soft White #0316 & Red Heart Giant Multicolor Pine Heather #2444, with the I hook.  I donated this square to the American Angels group for a wounded ghan.

I used the same Granny Square Pattern with TLC Essentials Dark Brown #2368 and Red Heart Super Saver Soft Navy #0387 with the I hook.  It was also donated for a wounded ghan in the American Angels group.

I have also started receiving my next round of red, white & blue 12″ granny squares to make 2 heroghans for our American Angels Heroghan group.

I made this afghan for my daughter’s primary school PTO Spring Fling Silent Auction to be held on March 28.  I’ve already heard from the principal that it is lovely and should be a big hit.

I’ve never made a full granny square afghan by myself and it was quite fun actually, although the squares did get a little tedious.  They are all 9″ and I used Red Heart 100% acrylic medium worsted weight yarn.  Mostly from scraps I had left over.   In fact, the black yarn may have been some Mainstays that I had left over.  It was aproximately 40″ x 66″.  I used the #14 Granny Square pattern by Martha Brooks Stein from the Leisure Arts #3078, 99 Granny Squares to Crochet booklet.  I think I used the “H” hook.  It didn’t take very long maybe about a week.  I’m anxious to see if it does well at the silent auction.  I haven’t decided if I’m going or not because that is my birthday.

I have pledged to crochet 100+ items to donate to the Mother & Baby Unit at Fort Stewart, Georgia, American military service members, and to the local hospital and charities in Midde Georgia.

After my step-daughter, Lauren, passed away in 2001, I began searching online for charities to donate to and found the internet to be very resourceful. Unfortunately, I was unable to begin any projects at that time. But, the desire still burned in my heart to use my talent to benefit others.

After the birth of my daughter, Leah Rose, in 2003, I felt even more strongly about making items to donate. In particular, donating to the babies in the neonatal intensive care unit. My daughter spent 10 days in the NICU when she was born and 16 days in the PICU after surgery in 2004. My day was always brightened to find little gifts left in her bed. It’s the little things that mean so much.

On 1/3/06, I came across Bev’s Country Cottage, and I decided that this was my opportunity to begin what I have yearned to do for so long. I posted my pledge and by 4/24/06, I had exceeded my goal of 100 items. I elected not to participate in 2007 and 2008 because I moved from Florida to Georgia and did not have the time or energy to crochet for a goal. However, this year, in 2009, I have decided to return to Bev’s Charity Challenge and again, work towards a goal, (which I have set very low… lol), and which I’m very confident that I will exceed the number of items made again.
